Dominate the Local Wine Market

Do you want to Dominate your Local Wine Market?

I’ll show you how to generate traffic to the website using Google and other media, convert that traffic into sales, and turn one-off orders into repeat loyal customers.

This is what we’ll do.

  1. We will draw a (20 mile) circle around your business’s physical location and say we want an “unfair” share of this local market, agree on a plan, and set some targets with a budget.
  2. Then start a cycle of Do-Analyze-Plan.

Each cycle goes like this,

  • Start creating content that sells e.g. reviews, tasting notes, recommendations, winery stories, wine awards…
  • Experimenting with what works in your local market, it may be ‘local search’, internet yellow pages, location based shopping comparison sites, localized adwords, or even local PR
  • Refine web pages to boost conversions especially through testing headlines and content, and analyzing shopping cart and shipping obstacles
  • Build repeat business through a regular email marketing program.

Once we know what works in your local market (and I have some great strategies applicable to most local markets) we ramp up your sales.

Then start the cycle again: plan-do-analyze , plan-do-analyze. Each cycle lasts a month or two depending on factors such as content written, advertising budget, and your enthusiasm.

Don’t think lottery (sorry)

Think continuous improvement of many small parts of the process. It’s like compound interest, 2% is nothing. But 2% compounded over 12 months (for example) will lead to a 24% improvement by the end of the year.

I can provide the inspiration and/or the perspiration – but one or both of us will have to work hard!

Ignore the internet marketing hype.

It requires some hard work to draw customers away from your competitors. You will need to create great content through wine reviews, blogs, and email marketing (with my coaching or indeed writing).

We’ll add ratings to wines – both yours, experts and customers. And, depending on you, we may use videos, and podcasts (don’t worry about the technical stuff I can guide you through it).

If you don’t have the time to do this yourself (or budget to pay me to do it for you) then please just read through the blog – it’s full of great practical information that you can implement now, for free.

As mentioned above, I can provide the inspiration and/or the perspiration. The amount of perspiration required on my side will determine the monthly fee but this starts at US$199 per month (Introductory Special: for the month of June and July 2010 its US$99 per month).

  • It includes two hours of marketing work per month (advice and planning; and/or SEO, PPC, email marketing, agency work)
  • If you need more hours of support then extra hours will be charged at US$100 per hour (or less if it makes sense for us to outsource it).
  • Support is available via email and, and will be responded to within one business day.

Please see the terms of service.

Essentially it is a Specialist Wine Internet Marketing Agency Service – though without the expensive minimum advertising spend required to use the top SEO/PPC agencies. The latter require a 10-20% commission on your ad spend with a minimum ad spend of $5,000-20,000 per month. Unrealistic for a small retailer of course.

Usually I’d be the guy at that top agency you’d deal with but for personal reasons I choose to offer this service directly myself – see more About Me for my background.

If you need a website then I can also arrange this by,

  • showing you how to do it yourself
  • providing a simple one for you to start off with (see WordPress below)
  • commissioning one of the wine retail eCommerce developers depending on your particular needs

Please note I’m not an eCommerce web developer (though I’ve done some and commissioned many). I actually don’t think the website itself is the key to a profitable wine business and have purposely chosen to de-emphasis this part of MyLocalWineStore.com. Indeed I think the best way to start off is to create a free blog on WordPress (that’s heretical in the eCommerce world but you need the content first and foremost). Then I recommend doing it yourself with my support using magentoecommerce.com, or hiring one of the specalist wine eCommerce developers.
